XV231 – Gear Failure

I added this page specifically as I was an OCU instructor on this flight. It was the first flight of a conversion (L1), Captained by Bob Moore, which incidentally was his first flight as an instructional QFI on this sortie and he

did a superb job. We were doing a dirty stall demonstration and unfortunately the left gear would not lock down and give us a GREEN. After completing all QRH procedures an approach was made at St Mawgan (see video below).

The aircraft was XV231, which was recovered and re-entered service after a year of repairs. XV231 is now parked in the Aviation Park at Manchester.

The Nimrod Review explains the circumstances around the tragic events of XV230 and a lot more besides.
