Monogram

THE MONOGRAM PROGRAMME OFFERS PERSONALISATION FOR MG AND ROVER CUSTOMERS

MG Rover Group has always recognised that each customer is an individual, and the Monogram Bespoke Build programme was created to allow customers to personalise their cars through their choice of a broad range of special colours, a wide selection of interior trim colours and fabrics, and a variety of individual features not normally available as part of a manufacturer’s specification. Monogram, introduced in 2002, has attracted almost 3000 individuals who take the opportunity to personalise their cars in this way.

Most popular have been the exclusive exterior body colours, with the 2003 range of 20 colours now enhanced and expanded to 24, including 12 completely new shades. From the sophisticated Chatsworth to the outrageous Bittersweet, the 2004 Monogram range takes freedom of expression to new limits. One of the new ‘Chromescent’ paints, Moonshine, even offers an iridescent, holographic paint effect.

John Edwards, MG Rover’s Group Sales and Marketing director, said: “The Monogram programme provides an exclusive opportunity for MG and Rover customers to realise their personality through automotive style and reflect their individuality.”

Carrying the personalisation theme through to the interior, a wide range of leather and Alcantara® interior trims is available for selection. Add to this the ability to use the ‘Personal Line’ option to colour-key the car’s fascia, steering wheel, door casings and other interior components, and bespoke build reaches new heights. Colour-keyed Alcantara® door casing inserts and alternative fascia finishes are also available to complete the interior integration.

And completing the opportunity is a package of individual factory-fitted options. High-tech items such as Highline Navigation systems or roof mounted DVD players complement alloy wheel options, tow packs and other features to ensure that the Rover and MG customers can enjoy an unprecedented degree of choice in determining the exact specification of their car.

Monogram Chromactive

Chromactive paints have arguably the most powerful paint colours in the new twenty colours offered within the Monogram programme. They are neither metallic nor pearlescent, yet they give a dramatic colour shift even in low light and have high levels of opacity and durability.

The paint formulation uses unique multi-layered pigment flakes which exhibit a wide range of hues depending on the viewing angle and the angle of light incidence. Five ultra-thin layers of material are applied to a carrier film, and it is the precise control of these colourless layers that produces the effect of changing colours through the physics of light interference. The composition of these layers produces colour effects similar to those found in nature, such as soap bubbles, butterfly wings and peacock feathers.

Aluminium, magnesium fluoride and chromium are among the materials used in the pigment flakes, which are micron sized, or about one fiftieth the thickness of a human hair. Their manufacturing process is controlled to a tolerance of a few atoms thickness. Each flake is highly reflective and extremely smooth, giving the paint high colour saturation and brightness.

Chromactive colours are Spectre and Typhoon.

Monogram Kinetic

Kinetic colours also have a striking appearance, but with a less extreme colour movement than the Chromactive. A unique groundcoat of coloured undercoat between the primer and the final colour coat gives great depth to the colour and an impression of different colour layers. Four Kinetic colours have been selected for Monogram – Mirage, Sunspot, Gulf Stream and Glacier.

Monogram Supertallics

A range of exclusive metallic paints that use silver and coloured aluminium flakes to provide a sparkly effect, with the size of the flake and its particular coating varying from colour to colour to give the desired effect.

Micatallics and pearlescents are based on mica pigments in combination with a small amount of aluminium flake.  These are usually finer and their particular chemical structure provides more flexibility in achieving a particular look.

Some micas have more colour-range ‘travel’ than others owing to the structure of the pigment, so it is possible to use the term pearlescent to describe a particularly dramatic mica.  The Monogram mica – Black Olive – is pearlescent and demonstrates this emphatic colour movement.
